In Year 6, students will take on new challenges, develop their leadership skills, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. We are committed to providing a supportive and engaging environment where every child can thrive.

Our Autumn term 2

In English, we are diving into the world of biographies! Our focus is on the inspiring life of Walt Disney. We’re exploring how he transformed his ideas and creativity into a global legacy. As part of this unit, each of us will choose someone we find inspiring, research their life and achievements, and write our own biographies.

In Guided Reading, we are immersed in the powerful story When the Sky Falls, which ties into our World War II topic in History. This book offers a look at the resilience and courage shown during the war, setting the stage for our discussions on how people adapt and grow through challenging times.

In our World War II topic, we’re stepping into history! We’re imagining life as evacuees to understand what it was like during the war. We’ll also learn about rationing and the Blitz, and in DT, we’ll put our creativity to work by designing and building our own air raid shelters.

To finish our topic, we’ll celebrate the end of the war with a VE Day event. We’ll be baking, making sandwiches, and dancing to 1940s music to experience how people celebrated peace.

We can’t wait to share our learning and celebrate together!

In Maths, children will be focusing on fractions—practising how to add and subtract them. We’re also working on unit conversions to better understand different types of measurements Please make sure your children are secure with all times tables to 12 times, to help with this please continue to practise using Times Tables Rockstars.
